Southeast Texas is home to three major commercial rail carriers. Union Pacific, Kansas City Southern and Burlington Northern Santa Fe all operate in the regional market. Additionally, Amtrak serves Southeast Texas residents via the Sunset Limited service.

Waterways
|
Few regions in the country have as extensive a network of waterways as Southeast Texas. Three major ports, two river authorities and a navigation district provide access to national and international markets by way of barge and deep sea vessels. The Sabine Neches Waterway recently received congressional approval to deepen and widen the channel. Doing so will open up the local ports to increased travel and tonnage.
